Pastor Stennett H. Brooks was devoted Seventh-day Adventist. He was the retired president of Northeastern Conference of Seventh-day Adventist, an entrepreneur, and 2008 recipient of the United Negro College Fund’s distinguished alumnus award. He was the eldest of six children born to Roger and Jelina Brooks in Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua.
Education was very important to him. He attended school in Panama, Jamaica, New York, and Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama. He married Erma R. Parchment and together had three daughters, Andrea (deceased), Audra, and Amalia (Chris).
He worked at Northeastern Conference (with its 47,000 membership) as the conference’s accountant, secretary-treasurer, treasurer, and conference president. Under his leadership a nursing home, senior citizen housing, and the Northeastern Conference Headquarters building was constructed. In addition, Northeastern Academy was purchased.
He was a member of the City Tabernacle Church in New York City where he served as first elder and Sabbath School superintendent. Pastor Brook was president of the A. Samuel Rashford Chapter of the Oakwood College Alumni. He was recently elected the president of the New York Chapter of the Northern Caribbean University. In addition, he was a member of the Greater New York Inter-Alumni Council/UNCF. In addition to his many endeavors, he loved to travel. He was a cruise counselor by the Cruise Line International Association and a member of the American Society of Travel Agents.
He was a wonderful person, pleasant, and down-to-earth. He loved his family and church and was loved by many. |
